NFL futures bets to consider following Stefon Diggs trade to Texans

The bombshell of the day in the NFL world is that four-time Pro Bowl WR Stefon Diggs has been traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Houston Texans. There has been smoke around a potential Diggs trade for months now, and it's finally come to fruition, with Houston sending a second round pick to Buffalo to secure Diggs's services.

The Texans now have given reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud another key weapon in the passing game, when he already showed an elite ability to elevate this offense with young WRs Tank Dell and Nico Collins.

This move, as you might imagine, has impacted the betting market and also gives us some options to consider.

Houston odds to win the Super Bowl move from +2500 to +1800

The Texans have gone all-in on the window they have while Stroud is on his rookie deal, signing Joe Mixon earlier this offseason and now acquiring Diggs.

Houston has moved to 18-1 to win next year's Super Bowl, tied for the seventh-best odds in the league. Call us crazy, but this seems like a bargain and a price worth grabbing.

Consider: As we were writing this piece, Houston's odds continued to climb from 20-1 to now 18-1, and their odds to win the conference moved from 10-1 to 9-1.

The Texans won a playoff game last year and we've seen what an impact of a star WR can do when joining a young, budding QB.

See: A.J. Brown joining Philadelphia two years ago and the Eagles subsequently reaching the Super Bowl; or see Diggs himself and the impact he had on Buffalo and Josh Allen for his tenure there, consistently winning the AFC East.

Houston's current 2024 odds:

To win AFC South: +110 To win AFC: +900 To win Super Bowl: +1800

Place your MVP futures now

C.J. Stroud is currently sitting at +1100 to win this year's Most Valuable Player award, a future we'll gladly invest in now. Stroud was eighth last year in passing yards and sported an elite 23-5 TD:INT ratio.

Diggs is a dynamic talent, but so too are Collins and Dell. Stroud finds himself in an enviable position of being able to spread the ball throughout his offense and make it hard for defenses to key in on any one player, and tight end Dalton Schultz is also a strong pass-catching option.

Bet: C.J. Stroud to win MVP (+1100)
Josh Allen is currently +700 to win MVP.

Impact on Buffalo's futures odds

Buffalo's conference and title odds started to slide almost immediately following this trade announcement as bettors flooded the markets with bets on the Houston end. The Bills have moved from +600 to +700 to win the AFC, and +1100 to +1300 to win it all. We'd expect these odds to continue dipping down in the coming days and week.

The biggest impact has come on the position of the first player drafted from Buffalo. Hats off to you if you were able to grab WR a few weeks ago, as DraftKings currently has wide receiver at -300 to be Buffalo's first selection at No. 28. That seems like an inevitability at this point; they cannot proceed with Khalil Shakir as their WR1.

You may want to consider that 2024 may bring with it a fresh AFC East champ for the first time since 2019.

Current odds to win AFC East:

  • Buffalo (+160)
  • Miami (+170)
  • NY Jets (+240)
  • New England (+1700)

In summation: We're loving Houston's outlook in 2024, and expect to see a young pass-catcher to be joining Josh Allen and Buffalo in three weeks time on the first night of the NFL Draft.
