The Washington Redskins and QB Robert Griffin III received the worst possible news on Tuesday. He sustained a complete tear of both his ACL and LCL, confirmed by Dr. James Andrews. Surgery is schedule for this morning around 7 a.m. EST. Griffin aggravated his knee injury in Sunday’s playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The recovery time for the surgery is reportedly 6-8 months. Griffin underwent ACL surgery in 2009.
Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has received a lot of criticism over his decision to keep Griffin in the game despite his injury. Griffin defended his coach, telling reporters that he wanted to remain in the game. “Many may question, criticize, and think they have the right answers. But few have been in the line of fire in battle,” Griffin tweeted. He continued to tweet, stating he embraced the support and appreciated the criticism.
