NFL insider believes Chiefs WR is poised for breakout in 2023

Most Kansas City Chiefs fans haven't been shy about their expectations of wide receiver Justyn Ross.

Now, one NFL insider says he expects Ross to have a breakout season in 2023.

NFL Network's Peter Schrager picked Ross as one of his top-five receivers to break out this season. Ross, a 2022 undrafted free agent, has been making some noise during offseason workouts and has caught the attention of people across the league.

"I was in Kansas City this past weekend ... Every other question was about DeAndre Hopkins or Justyn Ross. Is Justyn Ross for real? Like, yeah, Justyn Ross is for real. Let's see what happens when it happens in a game.

"This was a No. 1 high school recruit coming out of high school. Starred at Clemson, had injuries, and now he's going to be on the Chiefs this year. We'll see how he does."

If Ross lives up to that billing, the Chiefs will greatly benefit. Kansas City has a quality unit out wide but will need these players to step up, and Ross is no exception.

The Chiefs have Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Kadarius Toney in possible starting roles while second-round picks Skyy Moore and Rashee Rice add depth. Kansas City also has veterans Justin Watson and Richie James. Ross could shoot up the depth chart if he can get close to what he was at Clemson.

The 6-foot-4 receiver was on his way to being a first-round pick before a neck injury sidelined him his junior season. Before that, he had 112 receptions and 17 touchdowns.

If Ross is able to return to form, the Chiefs may have a breakout star in their locker room.
