The Browns have held a lead at the half in every game this season. They finished the first half up 17-10. The Browns missed a golden opportunity on their first series when Josh Gordon dropped a pass that would have went for a big gain, if not a touchdown. They compounded the error with a pass interference penalty in the end zone on Buffalo’s second play from scrimmage. Two minutes in and the Browns were down 7-0. The Browns were driving on their second possession when quarterback Brian Hoyer was injured while scrambling for a first down. Hoyer was hit while trying to slide and his legs were bent underneath him. Brandon Weeden entered the game and threw two incompletions to stall the drive. The Bills added a field goal in the first quarter to take a 10-0 lead. A Travis Benjamin punt return set up Cleveland’s first trip to the red zone. A personal foul penalty on Buffalo against Davone Bess gave the Browns a first down on the 12. The drive ended with a 30 yard field goal from Billy Cundiff less than a minute into the second quarter. Cleveland was on the board. The Browns put together a good drive in the second quarter, going 14 plays for 74 yards that resulted in a game tying touchdown.  The Browns scored a touchdown on Willis McGahee’s first touchdown as a Brown. The drive was aided by an illegal contact penalty against Buffalo in the end zone. Fullback Chris Ogbonnaya was hurt on the drive. He was evaluated for a head injury. Buffalo went three and out and made the mistake of punting to Travis Benjamin who weaved his way through the Bills for a 79 yard return for a touchdown. Cleveland lead 17-10. Can Brandon Weeden and the Browns escape the third quarter malaise that they have been stuck in this season? The Browns have been outscored 24-6 in the third quarter this season. They have been shutout in the third frame twice. [Related: Brian Hoyer injured in the first quarter]
