The Pittsburgh Steelers made a series of moves on Friday in order to reach the league required 53-man roster limit. 20 players were waived on Friday with one player being added to the injured reserve list. Rookie LB Shane Spence was added to the IR list Friday afternoon after being injured in the Steelers final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.
Two veteran players were released among the 20 cut on Friday. OL Trai Essex and P Jeremy Kapinos. Essex has 28 career starts for the Steelers while Kapinos has been the team’s punter for two seasons.
Eighteen other players were released as well. DBs Damon Cromartie-Smith, Terrence Frederick and Josh Victorian, LBs Brandon Hicks and Marshall McFadden, DLs Corbin Bryant, Igbinosun Ikponmwosa and Jake Stoller, QB Jerrod Johnson, RB DuJuan Harris, WRs Tyler Beiler, Toney Clemons, David Gilreath, Marquis Maze and Derrick Williams, and OLs Ryan Lee, John Malecki and Chris Scott.
