The NFL and the players' association released a joint statement Wednesday acknowledging "confidential discussions" are continuing this week before chief magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan. Among the owners' delegation taking part in the talks, according to the statement, are commissioner Roger Goodell and owners Jerry Richardson of the Carolina Panthers, Clark Hunt of the Kansas City Chiefs, Robert Kraft of the New England Patriots, John Mara of the New York Giants and Dean Spanos of the San Diego Chargers. The talks began Tuesday at a New York City hotel and continued Wednesday at an undisclosed location on Long Island, N.Y. Representing the players are NFLPA leader DeMaurice Smith, former Tennessee Titans center Kevin Mawae, Indianapolis Colts center Jeff Saturday, Chiefs linebacker Mike Vrabel, New York Jets fullback Tony Richardson and Baltimore Ravens cornerback Domonique Foxworth. A person familiar with the talks told The Associated Press the owners and players will meet again "soon and often. That means in the near future, not in a month or anything like that."
