When the smoke finally cleared on the Ravens' brouhaha with officiating issues in Sunday's loss to the Patriots, the Ravens were vindicated. Sort of.
Ray Anderson of the NFL office deemed there would be no fines after several Ravens had been quoted criticizing Ron Winters' crew for suspect personal fouls and apparent poor spots of the ball. Ray Lewis was among the most vocal, saying it was embarrassing for the league to make some of the calls it made in the game.
The Ravens had a lot of communication with Anderson and Mike Periera, head of the officials, over Monday and Tuesday.
Lewis' take on the fact no fines were forthcoming: "It's a respect factor. Our league does a great job of controlling the outcomes of games and what goes on in between the lines. You can never discredit that. I think they understood where we were coming from. I think there is a great level of respect from both sides."
