NFL reveals crucial part of the Minnesota Vikings 2024 schedule
Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL reveals the entire slate of its 2024 schedule on Wednesday evening, but the league has also been dropping breadcrumbs along the way, aka, key games that serve as an appetizer of sorts while we await the main course.

The Minnesota Vikings are one of said breadcrumbs. On Wednesday morning, the NFL revealed the Vikings' opponent and the week/kickoff time for their overseas matchup in London, where they'll play at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Vikings will "host" Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets in Week 5, per NFL Network's Wednesday morning announcement.

Vikings-Jets is a rare matchup

These two teams have faced off just 12 times over the course of their respective franchise histories and the Jets lead the series, 8-4. However, the Vikings have won the last three matchups, with the latest victory coming in the shape of a 27-22 win back in 2022. The Vikings defense held quarterback Mike White touchdown-less through the air and forced two big interceptions that helped key the victory.

Before that, the Jets won seven straight matchups from 1979-2010.

Obviously, this matchup will feature a whole new quarterback matchup than the one we saw in Kirk Cousins-White back in 2022. We will either see a Rodgers-Sam Darnold matchup, which gives way to a nice little revenge storyline for Darnold, the former No. 3 overall pick of the Jets back in 2018. Or, we'll see a Rodgers-J.J. McCarthy matchup, which could potentially represent the closing of one Hall of Fame career and the dawn of the other.

Either way, this game should be a fun matchup, even if it's a pseudo home game for the Vikings. If the Jets are healthy, they have one of the more stacked rosters in the entire NFL and would represent an excellent measuring stick for a Minnesota team that's not necessarily going through a true rebuild, but is trying to find a new identity in 2024 and beyond.
