It has always been said that NFL rookies will eventually hit that dreaded “Rookie Wall” at some point during their first season. These rookies are used to playing 12 games throughout high school and college, so between the weekly grind of playing 16 games in the NFL, as well as learning and going through so much both physically and emotionally, you can see why many rookies struggle to complete a full 16 game schedule and perform just as well in the second half as they did in the first half of the season. We saw it with Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers last season, and it appears we are seeing it start to happen to Robert Griffin III with the Washington Redskins in 2012. The same, however, cannot be said of Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts and Doug Martin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With each passing game, these two seem to only get better. Well, with each running week as it pertains to Martin. All joking aside, there is no doubt that Griffin III started his rookie season as...

Sports Network: Colts try their Luck against Dolphins

The Sports Network's story is as much about the similarities of two unlikely playoff contenders as it is a game preview.  Those similarities lie more in the their situations than in their playing style.  Both teams were expected by many to be AFC bottom feeders, competing for the number one over all pick in April's draft.  Yet here they are, each with their rookie quarterback...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers News: RB Doug Martin turns in effort for record books

Rookie RB Doug Martin was expected to be a large part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense this season under first-year head coach Greg Schiano. After a slow start, Martin is starting to hit his stride and on Sunday, turned in a record setting effort against the Oakland Raiders. The player affectionately known as the “Muscle Hampster”, muscled his way to 251 yards on the ground...

Around the state: Bucs rookie making plays

Doug Martin ran home. And ran, and ran, and ran. The Buccaneers rookie running back, a native of nearby Stockton, Calif., rushed for 251 yards and four touchdowns to lead Tampa Bay to a 42-32 victory at Oakland on Sunday. Playing before more than 60 family and friends, Martin joined Denvers Mike Anderson as the only backs with at least 250 yards rushing and four TDs in a single...

Richards: Colts Defense, With the Win

Phil Richards's article on Indy's defense takes a different spin: they came up when they needed to. Andrew Luck has been praised, and rightfully so; the rookie's been singlehandedly winning the Colts games, trying to push a team devoid of a consistant run game and defense. Against Miami, the first half was classic Colts football: Luck scores, the run sputters, the defense...

Dolphins eager to reestablish defense

DAVIE, Fla. Miami Dolphins coordinator Kevin Coyle really wasn't in the mood to talk Sunday night. The Dolphins had just lost 23-20 at Indianapolis, where Coyle's defensive unit had been exploited big-time by Andrew Luck and the Colts. Nevertheless, Coyle was on the phone with his wife. "She said, You know, you guys have lost three games by three points each.'...

Martin Sets High Score on Dig Doug

There were concerns after Pro-Bowl guard Nicks went down for the rest of the season.  People were saying that the statement game against Minnesota was now also the swan song for Doug Martin and his season.  Well just letting you all know the Martin show might have been cancelled but it looks like this one will survive it’s first season.  One week in without Nicks and Martin...

Indianapolis Colts Week 9: Miami Dolphins

The Indianapolis Colts take the field at Lucas Oils Stadium Sunday to play their most meaningful game of the season to date against the Miami Dolphins. These two former AFC East rivals were predicted by most to be at, or close to, the bottom of the division standings. In a show of how unpredictable the NFL truly is, both teams are instead holding down the second place spot in their...

Panthers snap losing streak in D.C.

After Robert Griffin III was buried in a pile near the goal line, Cam Newton took over and led a 98-yard drive - bloody thumb and all. His abilities as a leader in question and his team in desperate need of positive morale - not to mention a win - Newton got the better of the first NFL matchup between the last two Heisman Trophy winners Sunday as the Carolina Panthers broke a five...

Ravens-Steelers game remains on Sunday night

The Baltimore Ravens' game at the Pittsburgh Steelers will remain on Sunday night Nov. 18. Week 11 is when flexible scheduling kicks in, allowing the NFL to move a more appealing matchup into prime time if need be. But with the rival Ravens (6-2) and Steelers (5-3) again battling for the AFC North title, NBC is keeping the game. The league said Monday that the Indianapolis...

Waiver Wire: T.Y. Hilton

I could be the next big thing Juan… The Colts pass attack is becoming an elite group and Andrew Luck has the look of a guy who will be a top 10 fantasy QB for years.  Today he threw for 400 yards and his WRs were the recipients of this fantasy goodness. Donnie Avery was off to he biggest game since week 2 with 5/108, when he excited with a hip injury.  T.Y. Hilton had his biggest...

Baylor-Oklahoma Preview

Oklahoma had never been beaten by Baylor before suffering a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Robert Griffin III nearly a year ago. The 14th-ranked Sooners could resume their dominating ways in this series with the reigning Heisman Trophy winner no longer around. Oklahoma tries to improve to 11-0 all-time against high-scoring Baylor in Norman as these Big 12 rivals square off...
