According to several reports, including Patrick McManamon and Tony Grossi, the Browns have cut QB Seneca Wallace. The move all but assures Colt McCoy of the back-up QB job and that he won’t be traded. Thaddeus Lewis will likely make the 53 man roster as the third string QB. After the game last night, Wallace hinted that there was a possibility that ‘something would have to happen’ in order for him to be on the roster, whether that was a contract renegotiation or a trade. Wallace spent the last two seasons with the Browns, starting 7 games. He threw six touchdowns and four interceptions during that span. [Related: Browns release David Sims, Dan Gronkowski]

AP Source: Browns release QB Seneca Wallace

Seneca Wallace threw a touchdown on his last pass in Thursday's exhibition. Turns out, it was his last pass for the Browns. The veteran quarterback was waived Friday by Cleveland, a move that seems to indicate the team will keep former starter Colt McCoy as a backup to rookie Brandon Weeden. Wallace was released along with tight end Evan Moore, a person familiar with the decisions...

Wallace, Moore lead players cut

Seneca Wallace among the cuts as the Browns get down to the 53-man limit

Browns part with Wallace, making McCoy backup

In the end, it might have been the numbers that mattered most to the Browns. Colt McCoy's miserable preseason finale on Thursday night didn't cost him his roster spot with the Browns. The numbers were finances. Seneca Wallace was released, clearing his salary which was $1.9 million higher than McCoy's for 2012, and McCoy will stay as the backup to rookie starter Brandon...

The Cleveland Browns made a series of roster moves on Friday in order to reach the NFL required 53-man roster limit. Two veteran players were released. TE Evan Moore and QB Seneca Wallace. The release of Wallace might not signal that Cleveland is content...

Browns GM still doesn’t plan on trading Colt McCoy

Getty According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer, Browns general manager Tom Heckert said that he’s not thinking about trading back up quarterback Colt McCoy. #Browns Heckert said he’s pretty set with McCoy as backup quarterback, not thinking of trading him at some point. — Mary Kay Cabot (@MaryKayCabot) September 1, 2012 McCoy is still a good quarterback that...

On Disc Golf

At Sims Park in Euclid, OH While many of you have been pouring over the Browns’ depth charts and debating how worried we should be by these crappy preseason performances, I’ve been studiously avoiding any and all talk of Browns football 1 . I say that in jest, but it is mostly true. The Great Colt McCoy debate of 2012 has kept me away from Cleveland sports talk radio and my work...

McCoy unimpressive in Browns' loss to Bears

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Quarterback Colt McCoy did little to solidify winning Cleveland's backup job -- or impress any other NFL team -- and Chicago's Josh McCown threw two touchdown passes in the first half, leading the Bears to a 28-20 victory over the Browns on Thursday night in the exhibition finale. McCoy, who lost his starting job in training camp to rookie Brandon Weeden...

WFNY Podcast – 2012-08-30 – The Return

The WFNY Podcast makes a triumphant return. The opening is absolutely ridiculous now, as you’ll hear. The highlight clips have LeBron and Braylon Edwards! This is the last time you’ll hear it, but we thought it would be funny to play it one last time. As for the rest, we’re Browns heavy. Eskin: A.J. Feeley could be headed to the Browns

Things might get more and more interesting with regard to QBs in Cleveland if Howard Eskin out of Philly is correct. Eskin reports that A.J. Feeley could be a Brown, although it appears to be mostly speculation on his part. If Feeley finds his way to Cleveland, as a 35-year-old QB he could fill the mentor role for Brandon Weeden the way Jake Delhomme did for Colt McCoy. It has always...
