The Carolina Panthers could use a little shake-up for next season. After a promising 2011 campaign, the team seemed to take a step back in 2012. They need to go back to the drawing board and come up with some new options. One option could be signing free agent Chris Canty.
According CBS Charlotte, Canty has indicated he might take a hometown discount to sign with the Panthers. However, the team has not approached him. Panthers' players have, but not the team. Canty went to high school in North Carolina and would love to be close to family.
Canty was released by the New York Giants last season after providing them some productive years. He became a free agent after his release and is looking for a new team. In his time with the Giants, Canty helped guide the team to a Super Bowl victory and was an integral part of the team's defense.
Canty has spent eight seasons in the NFL. He started his career with the Dallas Cowboys before moving on to the Giants. Last season, the 30-year old had 20 tackles and three sacks. In his career, Canty has had 19.0 sacks.
