In a move that might not happen until this weekend, Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil has asked the team for his release. The Broncos and Dumervil’s agent have been trying to work out a new deal as the team asked the pass rusher to take a pay cut. Dumervil’s agent told reporters last week that they would be willing to renegotiate his current contract, but not to take a pay cut. All reports in the last 48 hours suggest the Broncos are asking for an outright paycut. The Broncos would have tens of millions of dollars wrapped up in cap space between Dumervil and quarterback Peyton Manning if the team can’t work out a new deal with the defensive end while needing to add a few pieces around the roster. The Broncos released veteran LB D.J. Williams on Monday and the team might usher Dumervil out the door as well in coming days. His current contract calls for his contract to be guaranteed if Dumervil is on the Broncos roster five days after the start of the NFL season which starts...

Dwight Freeney to Denver makes sense

Now that it looks like the Denver Broncos may end getting rid of Elvis Dumervil, the next viable option would be to bring in Dwight Freeney.  It was reported just last week that they’re expected to go after Freeney if they dump Dumervil. Even though Freeney isn’t a natural fit as a 3-4 outside linebacker, the Broncos must believe he can get the job done if they’re willing...
