After the Atlanta Falcons recorded their first playoff win under head coach Mike Smith last week, veteran TE Tony Gonzalez reportedly told a teammate that he was 97% certain that when this season ended, he was going to retire. Gonzalez wouldn’t confirm his plans last night after the Falcons loss, but his comments to reporters suggest that he will be hanging the cleats up this offseason. “I have been blessed. I don’t want anyone to feel sorry for me. I’ve had a great ride, an unbelievable ride…I have no regrets. Not one,” said Gonzalez. In his storied career, the future Hall of Famer has never played in the Super Bowl and last week was his first career playoff win. He finishes this season with stellar numbers. Gonzalez hauled in 107 receptions for 1,059 yards and 10 touchdowns. Throughout his career, Gonzalez has been remarkably durable. In 16 seasons, he has missed just two games.
