The New England Patriots started the 2012 season with what was considered an exceptional amount of depth at the wide receiver position. As the season wore on, the Patriots roster became trimmed down at receiver and an injury last week has now forced the franchise to re-sign a receiver familiar with the Patriots offense. Veteran free agent Donte’ Stallworth was brought back to New England on Monday.
New England could be without the services of WR Julian Edleman for an extended period of time. Edleman was seen on Monday wearing a walking boot, but the typically secretive Patriots refused to reveal the extent of his injury. However, the injury must be severe enough to warrant the signing of Stallworth.
This will be the third stint for Stallworth with the Patriots. He was a member of the team in 2007. Stallworth was on the Patriots offseason roster but was released prior to the start of the regular season.
