Well, you can put the debate as to whether or not Mark Sanchez will return to the starting lineup again this season for the New York Jets, he will not. According to NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport, Sanchez will undergo season ending surgery on his torn labrum. He had been attempting a rehab in order to avoid the surgery, but Rapoport is reporting he will indeed undergo the surgery. The procedure requires a 4-6 month recovery period.
Sanchez was locked into a quarterback battle with rookie Geno Smith in the preseason, but his injury, which was sustained in the fourth quarter of a meaningless game, cost him a chance to start the regular season for the Jets.
While Smith has looked good at times in this young season, turnovers are plaguing the rookie. At the current pace, the second-round draft selection will throw 32 interceptions and lose 12 fumbles.
