Forget the rumors about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers trading for CB Darrelle Revis, another name has entered the mix. The Boston Herald is reporting this evening that the Buccaneers might be in the mix for New England Patriots QB Ryan Mallett. This is interesting because I threw Mallett’s name into the mix last month when the Buccaneers front office clearly stated that they would not be extending Josh Freeman’s contract heading into the final year of his rookie contract. There is a history between the current coaching staffs of both clubs. Bucs head coach Greg Schiano coached Bill Belichick’s son at Rutgers. Bill Belichick called the Buccaneers and told the ownership that he thought Schiano was ready to coach in the NFL. The Buccaneers sent CB Aqib Talib to the Patriots at the NFL trade deadline last year in exchange for a fourth-round draft selection. New England does not have their usual dozen draft selections heading into this year’s draft and needs some picks. The Cleveland Browns, ...

According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, both the Buccaneers and Browns are interested in trading for Patriots back up quarterback Ryan Mallett. The Browns and Buccaneers have expressed interest to the Patriots in trading for quarterback Ryan Mallett, but a deal seems unlikely at this point, according to a source. The CBA doesn’t allow players to restructure their contracts...

Bucs, Dashon Goldson agree to five-year deal

TAMPA, Fla. The hope to move beyond a forgettable season in the secondary sat between his new franchise's brain trust, fitted with a red-and-pewter cap, offering themes common for this time of year. Promise. Optimism. Potential. Visions of a large stride ahead. As six-year safety Dashon Goldson spoke Wednesday afternoon at One Buccaneer Place fresh off agreeing to a reported...

Warren Sapp F-Bombing Belichick Via Open Mic On NFL Network

Guess Warren Sapp is tired of listening to NFL blowhards talk about Bill Belichick. Listen closely to what Sapp had to say on a hot mic as some blowhard talks to Scott Hanson about the Patriots draft philosophy. You hear Warren f-bombing the Belichick angle. Warren is then reminded that the NFL Network could play the Seahawks angle and lose viewers, which would lead to less advertising...

Has Ronde Barber’s fate been decided?

The Buccaneers met with veteran Ronde Barber last week and the two sides discussed plans for the future. While the team said they would wait for Barber’s decision, it appears their plans do not include him in them. Or does it?  After the team announced Tuesday they signed Pro Bowl safety Dashon Goldson to a five-year deal, it was pretty evident that Barber is not in the Bucs...

As expected, Patriots are not going for Nnamdi

I'm as heartbroken as anybody right now. Watching Wes Welker leave for nothing more than an average contract has to make you think that the Patriots have something up their sleeves... RIGHT?? Well according to SI.com, Bill Belichick's master plan will not include free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha. The teams interested include the 49ers (seriously, where are they getting...

Immediate Thoughts On The Patriots Ditching Wes Welker For Danny Amendola

Just before I left work today a co-worker interrupted my conversation to tell me that Wes Welker was gone, on his way to Denver.  A minute later, thanks to the wonders of twitter, I saw that it was a two-year deal.  I became puzzled, wasn’t that what the Pats offered Welker last year, a deal he rejected?  I rationalized that Welker surely got two years and $16 million or more...

I think there’s a contingent of Patriots Nation, mostly of the female variety, that will be just fine bringing Danny Amendola to New England.

Bucs are flying Dashon Goldson in on a private jet

Early signs point to the coveted safety joining second-year draft pick Mark Barron in the Buccaneers secondary, making for what should be a dynamic young tandem at the position. Not only are the Bucs the first team to meet with Goldson; he will be flying in style: the Bucs have reportedly chartered a private jet to bring him to their facilities in Tampa Bay. According to the same...

Wes Welker, Broncos in serious contract talks

Wes Welker may be hooking up with a future Hall of Fame QB after all. The former New England Patriots standout wide receiver is in “serious talks” with the Denver Broncos today, the second day of free agency, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.  The team reportedly wants to “hammer out a deal” with the All-Pro slot receiver. Welker, 31, had 118 catches for 1,354 yards last year...
