With the trade of Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders, the Seattle Seahawks now have an need for an experienced backup quarterback behind Russell Wilson. A few names circulated the internet on Monday after the trade of Flynn was completed but they don’t seem to match the Seahawks offensive scheme. Veteran journeyman Tyler Thigpen was tossed out as was former USC quarterback Matt Leinart.
Leinart would be reunited with his former college coach at USC, Pete Carroll. However, if Carroll had been interested in Leinart, he could have acquired him a few seasons ago when Carroll joined the Seahawks and Leinart was a free agent. I could likely pass on the southpaw once again.
One interesting name in the mix is free agent Vince Young. Chris Mortensen suggested as much on Twitter Monday. “As Seahawks evaluate a few veteran QB options (add Vince Young to list), they do plan to re-sign Josh Portis, cut late last November.”
