The Giants finally pulled the trigger and sent Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints for a second-round and fifth-round choice in the 2009 NFL Draft. Should anyone in New York care that Shockey was shipped to the Big Easy? I don't believe it's that big of a loss for the Giants. Last year New York Giants football fans were lamenting the retirement of the ultimate self-promoter, Tiki Barber. Now, Giants g.m. Jerry Reese has bid adieu to Shockey and his constant carping. Is Kevin Boss as good as Jeremy Shockey? I don't know, but Boss is more than an adequate replacement for Shockey. Don't you think management, the coaching staff and the players tired of Shockey's shtick. It got old and when you can't suit up no one wants to hear you whine. According to the Bergen Record, Shockey decided to clinch the deal by going off on Jerry Reese at a mini-camp in June. (I never could understand why Shockey was watching the game from a luxury box.) It all adds up to Adios Jeremy!

  • He a great player, he is a prensence out there............but ............he's from the " U ". That's how they roll.
  • Good long term FO move by NYG's...get future pick depth in 09' Draft, and get rid of jeremy "always disgruntled" Shockey...actually, it's been the injuries more than anything why this is a one-sided deal, in my mind...even if JS does well in the Big Easy
  • Another case of wasted talent, IMHO...he could be a great player but instead is just a head case!

  • I think that New Orleans improved themselves alot with this move. Offensively; I think this makes them one of the most dangerous teams in the NFC.
  • You are spot on that the Giant's did lose anything by trading him, but the Saints made a huge gain to their offense.
  • Yeah ,if he doesn't end up whinig about having to block too much in a game. Or that Brees is not throwing to him enough and so on and so on. Same s#!t, different city. He will end up being the same blubbering baby he was in NY. Just the usual transition of teams for your run of the mill spoiled cry baby athlete. So much talent wasted on ego.
  • Word.
  • Well said....
  • This is a huge mistake...obviously im a little bias about shockey caz im a huge fan of his...but it seems like we are losing guys while everyone else is gaining them. hes been the 2nd best TE statistically since hes been drafted. kevin boss is now our #1 TE which means plax will see double coverage constantly. we just went from 10-6 season to a 6-10 season real quick. i honetly hope im wrong. p.s. the saints just made themselves a contender.
  • I am going to disagree with uncfinatik. The Giants won the Super Bowl without Shockey, right? The Giants have added Michigan's Mario Manningham in the draft who is another deep threat.

Did you believe the Giants were going to the Super Bowl without Tiki Barber? Strahan is a bigger lost to the Giants than Shockey. Granted the Giants have better depth on the D line, but Strahan was a leader.

Shockey makes the Saints a contender? I'm not so sure about that. Sean Payton knows how use Shockey, but how much fuel is left in the tank? Shockey is on the small size for a TE and has endured a ton of punishment. Can Shockey stay healthy? That's the question.
