Could we have just witnessed DeAngelo Hall’s last game as a Redskin?(Photo by Jonathan Newton/The Washington Post) The Washington Redskins have some interesting decisions to make as the trade deadline arrived tomorrow at 4:00 PM ET. First is the curious case of Fred Davis, the talented tight end who has found himself in the doghouse for two consecutive weeks, being placed on the inactive list. The sixth year man out of USC has been used sparingly all season, after tearing his ACL in week seven last year. With the emergence of rookie TE Jordan Reed, and capable blocking TE Logan Paulsen firmly ahead of him on the depth chart, the Redskins may be wise to see what they can get for Davis. A free agent after the season, Washington will likely let Davis walk, so if they can get a late-round pick for him now, that would be considered a win. Next is steady veteran CB DeAngelo Hall. Unlike Davis, Hall has been playing (and playing exceptionally well) all season. However, he too is a free agent after 2013, and would likely only resign in Washington on a long-term deal, which the ‘Skins may be unwilling to give to the soon-to-be 30 year old. If they know that Hall is no longer in their future plans, and they see this season as a lost cause, they could ship him to a contender in need of help in the secondary for a modest return, maybe as high as a second or third round pick. Then, there’s Kirk Cousins. A controversial player in Washington since the second he was drafted, the second-year QB is thought of very highly by the organization. However, he is also liked by quite a few QB-needy teams around the league, and could bring back a very nice return of either a high pick or a proven NFL player. Tampa Bay, Buffalo, and Jacksonville are all teams that I could see going after Cousins until the deadline tomorrow. Of course, the Hall and Cousins trades assume that the Washington front office sees this season as over. If they don’t, they’ll hang on to Hall (and probably Cousins as well) and maybe even try and swing a deal of their own to bolster the roster down the stretch. Some potential targets include WR Josh Gordon of the Browns, S Jairus Byrd of the Bills, and, maybe, CB Darrelle Revis of the Buccaneers. The most likely scenario, honestly, is that the Redskins stand pat and don’t make any moves. The NFL trade deadline is not the flurry of movement and chaos that it is in other sports; most of the real activity happens in the offseason. At 4:01 PM ET, I’m thinking you’ll see the same Redskins team that you see today. For better or worse? I’ll leave that up to you. Related articles: Can the Washington Redskins tame the Broncos?
