BUFFALO (35) d KANSAS CITY (17)

The Headline: Bills run riot over misfiring Chiefs

The Story:

A run of big plays for the Bills gave their fans flashbacks to the opening week of 2011 where they blew out the Chiefs 41-7 as part of their hot start. This year both teams were coming off brutal week one losses, Buffalo to the Jets and the Chiefs to Atlanta and neither one was overly excited about the prospect of going 0-2. Both offenses failed to produce anything of note on their first drives before the Bills took charge on their second capping it off with a 17 yard touchdown run by C.J. Spiller. On the day the Bills had great success running the ball to the point where Ryan Fitzpatrick only needed to complete 10 passes, two of which went for touchdowns. Peyton Hillis looked good running the ball for the Chiefs taking the lead back role from Jamaal Charles who had a Chris Johnson-esque day going for three yards on 6 carries. As a contest this game was over with 3:29 left in the second quarter as the Bills leapt to a 21-0 lead as the Chiefs just could not execute well enough to stay in the game as the Bills got big play after big play when on the field.

Key Stat: Buffalo: 5 sacks of Matt Cassel

Cassel just couldn’t get into a rhythm at all in this game and the fact he got sacked 5 times and was rushed on several other plays did not help. Every time the Chiefs could not have afforded to give up a sack they seemed to do so and Cassel paid the price.

Key Play: C.J. Spiller 17 yard touchdown run.

This play kicked off the Chiefs scoring run in the first half and boy was it pretty, lining up out of a shotgun set Spiller took a delay to the left hand side of the line and was in the end zone before most of the Chiefs defenders knew what the hell was going on.

Man of the Match: C.J. Spiller

15 carries, 123 yards, 2 touchdowns; 3 catches, 47 yards

Filling in for the injured Fred Jackson, Spiller made the most of his opportunity to be the workhorse back producing plenty of big plays out of the backfield including the 17 yard touchdown run which saw him in the end zone in a flash as well as a 38 yard run which put the Bills in scoring position again. He even contributed in the passing game with a 27 yard reception, if he can keep this form up when Fred Jackson returns, then both of those guys are going to be in for big seasons and the Bills offense may reach the potential everyone expects of it.
