As I sit here about to write my article on the NFL’s Strongest and Weakest Divisions on a rainy, cold day here in Canada, I wonder if it is more stormy here or in a few of the Head Coaches offices in the NFL right now.  There are a few coaches with a very tenuous hold on their jobs right now such as Andy Reid, Mike Mularkey, Norv Turner, Romeo Crennel, Rex Ryan, Pat Shurmer and others.  Today’s NFL is a cutthroat business but it amazes me how some of these coaches who have shown nothing but mediocrity are still employed.  Sure they all have either an offensive or defensive pedigree so they shouldn’t be out of a job for long, but many of them make questionable “Head Coaching” decisions which have made the team worse.  Staying the course isn’t a good philosophy when you’re losing every week, as is not knowing why your best player only had 6 touches in a game.  As an owner who wants to put asses in the seats, you have to make some decisions as to coaching changes that may not be popular with the status quo.  I see two progressive owners, Shad Khan and Jim Haslem who seem to want to win and win soon, so grow some testicles and shake up the coaching staff because you won’t succeed with the dregs you have now.  I suppose I should focus this rant for a separate article but I let these thoughts drip from my fingers onto the keyboard like syrup drips from a Maple. Going into week 11 many divisions have seen fluctuations in their rankings as you will see below.  These rankings were compiled by the NFL.com’s team of 13 experts.  I just extrapolate all the info and put them into an overall divisional ranking.   AFC EAST New England – 7 New York Jets – 28 Buffalo – 26 Miami – 19 TOTAL = 80          Last Week = 71   AFC NORTH Pittsburgh – 9 Baltimore – 5 Cincinnati – 17 Cleveland – 30 TOTAL = 61          Last Week – 68   AFC SOUTH Houston – 1 Tennessee – 23 Jacksonville – 32 Indianapolis – 13 TOTAL = 69          Last Week = 74   AFC WEST San Diego – 22 Kansas City – 31 Denver – 8 Oakland – 29 TOTAL = 90          Last Week = 87     NFC EAST Philadelphia – 24 New York Giants – 11 Dallas – 15 Washington – 25 TOTAL = 75          Last Week – 66   NFC NORTH Green Bay – 3 Chicago – 4 Detroit – 18 Minnesota – 14 TOTAL = 39          Last Week – 37   NFC SOUTH Atlanta – 2 New Orleans – 16 Tampa Bay – 12 Carolina – 27 TOTAL = 57          Last Week = 61   NFC WEST San Francisco – 6 Arizona – 20 Seattle – 10 St. Louis – 21 TOTAL = 57          Last Week = 62     So if you have been following this weekly article you can see that teams have risen in the rankings and fallen in the rankings which have a direct effect on the divisional rankings.  The weakest division is the AFC WEST which has an overall ranking of 90 primarily due to loses by San Diego, Oakland and Kansas City.  This is the fourth straight week that the AFC WEST is the worst division in the NFL and they’ll have to improve a ton in order to escape a fifth straight week in last place.  The top division in the NFL is the NFC NORTH with an overall ranking of 39 which is far and away the best mark.  They have been the top division for 3 consecutive weeks and other divisions will be hard pressed to catch them.  The largest decline for the week was the AFC EAST and the NFC EAST who both fell 9 spots.  The largest improvement was the AFC NORTH who gained 7 spots at the expense of the above divisions.   By this time next week surely a management team will dismiss a coach right?  It remains to be seen.
