Philadelphia forward Jesse Boulerice was suspended 25 games by the NHL on Friday for striking Vancouver's Ryan Kesler across the face with his stick, the longest single-season ban in league history. The suspension was handed down by NHL disciplinarian Colin Campbell after a hearing in Toronto. "This was more than a careless and reckless play," Campbell said. Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najeh Davenport was charged with domestic violence, child endangering and unlawful restraint in a custody-related confrontation with the mother of his 5-year-old son, police said. Chief Michael McGrath said Thursday night that Davenport, 29, of Pittsburgh, would be given a chance to surrender for a court appearance on the misdemeanors. Former Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Quincy Carter, whose football career stalled because of drug allegations, was arrested early Friday in Shreveport, La., and charged with a felony count of marijuana possession. The arrest represents the latest off-field setback for Carter, a former second-round draft pick who has not played in the NFL since 2004.
