According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, linebacker Manti Te’o visited with the Giants on Thursday night and Friday.
The Notre Dame star fits a need for the Giants at middle linebacker and is spending a few days in the New York/New Jersey area to interview for the Giants.
Te’o’s off field issues are sure to be brought up, but his poor performance in the national championship game against Alabama raised some questions if he has the athletic ability and toughness to be a first round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Josh Alper of Profootballtalk.com writes:
‘When Mel Kiper of ESPN said earlier this month that there was no way Te’o would slip out of the first round, the Giants were one of the teams he cited as a landing spot for a guy whose play and off-field issues have both been the subject of conversation since the end of Notre Dame’s season.
The Giants have some needs at linebacker after cutting Michael Boley and losing Chase Blackburn as a free agent. They did sign former Cowboys and Panthers linebacker Dan Connor, but the team is likely to be looking for more help for the unit when the draft finally arrives.’
