Monday came and went without the Bengals and Mike Nugent reaching an agreement on a multi-year deal, meaning Nugent will officially be playing this season on his franchise tag. The fact that Nugent was going to play under the tag was expected since both sides had not had any sustaining discussions in recent weeks. Nugent will earn $2.645 million this season under the tag and could be an unrestricted free agent next year. Both sides can continue talking, but an extension can not be signed until the offseason. Of the five kickers who received the franchise tag, three came to agreements on four-year deals. Jacksonville’s Josh Scobee, who has the same agent as Nugent, got a new deal a couple hours before the deadline that is worth $3.45 million per year.
