The ongoing debate of whether quarterback Josh Freeman is the franchise quarterback or not is tiresome. But that the debate can not add when new twist to the discussion. On Friday, Scott Reynolds of Pewter Report wrote that the Buccaneers will not be extending the contract of Josh Freeman this offseason. While the Bucs might have entertained the notion of offering a contract extension before Freeman heads into his contract year in 2013, that late-season skid has dispelled that idea. Instead, the front office is being patient with the fourth-year player, who will turn just 25 on January 13, and wants to see how he performs next season before deciding whether or not to re-sign him and for how much. Reynolds also went on to say that general manager Mark Dominik can always use the franchise tag on Freeman if no agreement on an extension is reached. Only problem with that is the Bucs will have to pay him around $17 million under the tag. Has he been worth that much? Will he be worth that much? Referenced in the article as well is the extension given to Mark Sanchez by the New York Jets. The $58 million New York quarterback was benched during the 2012 season for playing horribly throughout the season. But the Josh Freeman speculations do not stop there. Benjamin Allbright of NFLDraftMonsters.com tweeted the following: Allbright would elaborate saying back channels were simply reaching out and gauging interest. Freeman has proven that he can play quarterback in the NFL. His inconsistency is what gets him in trouble. If he plays at a good level in 2013, Bucs should extend his contract. That is, if he can make it through the offseason with the Bucs. For the entire article from Scott Reynolds, click here. (Photo Credit: AP) The post No extension for Josh Freeman.
