Tim McManus of the PhillyMag.com is reporting that the Eagles are not negotiating a new contract with cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. “Nothing personal against the eccentric cornerback; the Eagles are not negotiating with any players at the moment, choosing instead to focus their energies on the season at hand,” writes McManus. “They have tried to stick to the policy of no in-season contract negotiations for the past few years. With a new coaching staff likely coming in, there’s even less reason to go away from that policy now.” The Eagles are faced with some big decisions this offseason. Rodgers-Cromartie is a free agent following this season and has been the Eagles best cornerback. According to Pro Football Focus, opposing quarterbacks passer rating when throwing at him is just 62.4 compared to Nnamdi Asomugha‘s 109.5. Asomugha is slated to make $15 million next year and $12 million in 2014 and 2015. With only $4 million guaranteed for next season, the Eagles could release Asomugha if they’re willing to eat that amount, but the Eagles would likely try to restructure his contract before they’d consider cutting the corner. So, considering the possibility of restructuring or even cutting Asomugha, the Eagle would certainly have enough money to pay Rodgers-Cromartie. We have Rodgers-Cromartie ranked at 25 on our Top 50 2013 Free Agents list.
