Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner and Alex Smith know each other well, and that could be a tipping point to try and bring the 49ers quarterback to Cleveland. Turner’s in depth knowledge of Smith could sway the front office to make a run at the top available signal caller this offseason. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, it’s a very possible scenario given the history between the two. ‘Browns offensive coordinator Norv Turner worked well with Smith in San Francisco when he was the team's offensive coordinator in 2006 and Chiefs coach Andy Reid has expressed an interest in Smith in the past, making Cleveland and Kansas City two possible destinations.’ Schefter continues: ‘There's one other factor to consider: If San Francisco deals Smith instead of cutting him, it would save the $1 million or $2 million roster bonus it would have to pay if he is released.’ To fuel the fire some more, Smith made these comments about Turner: “He gave you freedom as a quarterback to go out there and if you saw something to take risks, take shots and things like that,” Smith told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer. “He wasn't necessarily so rigid that you couldn't do that. It was fun to play in that system because you felt like there were plays out there. I loved it." var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});
