It was Super Bowl XXV (25) and American Patriotism, which took such a severe hit during the Vietnam War, was never greater than it was on Jan. 28, 1991. We were dominating Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf War. America considered our military people heroes again. Remember the yellow ribbons? And then before the mighty Buffalo Bills took on the underdog New York Giants, Frank Gifford announced on the Tampa stadium public address system that Whiteny Houston would perform our National Anthem. It was arguably the most anticipated Star Bangled Banner in U.S. history. And Houston stepped up and hit a 450-foot drive down the middle of fairway. She knocked it out of the park.
