Last week, we reported that Joe Flacco’s agent had yet to hear from the Ravens with regard to a possible contract offer after his client torched the Bengals in the season opener, and it seems nothing has changed on that front.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that discussions between the two sides have been put on hold and any renewal of a negotiation will likely have to start over from scratch. Schefter also indicated that a deal was almost final in August, but the two parties chose to table their discussion until a later date.

Baltimore can ill afford to lose Flacco and start over at quarterback, and that gives Flacco significant leverage in any discussion with the team, making it a virtual certainty that a deal gets done sooner rather than later.

For his part though, Flacco seems to be content with playing out the remainder of this season and then working with the Ravens front office to put together a deal that makes sense for both sides, and given the way he’s played thus far, it’s safe to say that he’ll be rewarded handsomely as a result.
