Not exactly what you want to see in the preseason.The Arizona Cardinals raised eyebrows around the league when they selected RB Ryan Williams out of Virginia Tech in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft back in April.
The team already had incumbent starter Tim Hightower, a steady and reliable player, on the roster. And just two years earlier they had invested a low first round draft pick on the über-talented Beanie Wells out of Ohio State. Add in third down specialist LaRod Stephens-Howling, and the addition of Williams would make for a very crowded backfield.
The Cardinals moved quickly to find some reps for Williams, trading Hightower to Washington early in training camp for a low draft pick and veteran defensive lineman Vonnie Holliday. This signaled that Wells would be the starter, but Williams would be counted on in a big way as a rookie.
