Found August 26, 2012 on NY Sports Nut:

During the game in which Giants first round pick David Wilson shined in the wide receiver spot, corner back Prince Amukamara fell with a high ankle sprain.  The injury is predicted to take him out of the Giants’ starting lineup for three to six weeks.

Although Amukamara was not a major factor in the Giants’ Super Bowl win,  coach Coughlin was relying on him to preform well opposite Corey Webster. With cornerback Terrell Thomas still out with an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, and rookie Jayron Hosley still in a walking boot due to turf toe, the Giants’ corner back options were already running thin.  Now without Amukamara, they are scrambling to find a replacement.

During Friday night’s game, Amukamara was replaced by four-year vet Bruce Johnson who missed all of last season with a torn Achilles. Chicago instantly exploited Johnson, throwing a touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall. Coughlin was more impressed by fifth year veteran Micheal Coe who replaced Johnson later in the game.  Coe is a very physical corner and thrives on playing up on receivers at the line of scrimmage.  Even with the impressive play by Coe, the Giants still fell to the Bears 20-17.

The Giants’ next game is Wedesday 8/29 against the New England Patriots.  Don’t expect the Giants or Patriots starters to play big minutes.  They will likely play one or two series before giving way to the reserves.

The Giants situation coming out of the preseason is the same as it has been for the past 5 years.  They need to come out healthy.  With the injuries they have already suffered, the hope now is to simply come out with 53 live bodies after final roster cuts are made.

With the start of the season just over a week away, the days left cannot go fast enough.
