Bay Sports Report:
The Oakland Raiders come of their bye week at 2-4 but they face four straight winnable games against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and Houston Texans. On paper, the Raiders could still be in the playoff picture after the four game stint but their opponents all have a great pass rush which is the Raiders greatest weakness. In order for the Raiders to protect Terrelle Pryor and get some points on the board they must utilize rookie tight end Mychal Rivera.
In five games with the Raiders this season, Terrelle Pryor improvised his way into making some big plays for the Raiders offense. However, Pryor’s last game against the Chiefs showed that he can’t carry the team by himself. Offensive coordinator Greg Olson must start call short passes and screens that will take the pressure off the atrocious offensive line.
Rookie tight end Mychal Rivera must step up for the rest of the season for the Raiders to have any chance of winning some games. All great offenses have a go to tight end who can be the safety blanket for the quarterback. Olson must involve Rivera early in the game to get Rivera’s confidence up for the rest of the game. Although Rivera is nowhere near being a great receiver, he has proven that he is the best tight end on the Raiders roster.
The noodle armed Matt Flynn actually targeted Rivera seven times during his lone start with the silver and black. Obviously, Pryor should not copy all of Flynn’s tactics but he should try to utilize Rivera just like Flynn did. If Rivera starts to make some noise on the offense it will force a linebacker to focus on Rivera which could free up some running room for Pryor.
Unfortunately, the Raiders offensive line will be awful all year long. Greg Olson must try to make the best out of a bad situation by game planning around his pathetic blockers. Giving the ball to Rivera might not make the Raiders an explosive offense but it will help take pressure of the young Terrelle Pryor.

This Sunday, the Oakland Raiders (2-4) take on the Pittsburgh Steelers (2-4) at O.co Coliseum. With both teams having the same record, the loser of this weekend’s game is likely to lose their hopes for the playoffs. But after a week off for their bye, will the Oakland Raiders be ready to attack the Steelers’ strong offense?

The Raiders announced late last evening that they had signed OLB Martez Wilson, recently cut by the Saints so they could sign QB Ryan Griffin, and waived DT Christo Bilukidi. Bilukidi’s cut comes as a surprise after being drafted in the sixth round last year by McKenzie. Reggie has shown a tendency to cut players, even those that he drafted, if it means that the team is improving...
When Shane Lechler left this off season not many fans were happy. Many Raiders fans were upset, because even though they love Marquette King’s strong leg, they were not sure if he could be consistent. Although it hasn’t been perfected, King’s punts have been effective. He’s averaging 42 net yards per punt – which ranks […]
Oakland Raiders G.M. Reggie McKenzie has done it again! He's come up with another hungry, talented, no-name defensive player that's going to help this Raiders defense immensely. He's done it by picking up 2011 third-round draft pick Martez Wilson off waivers from the New Orleans Saints. Before you say, "So, who's that?" you have to just trust McKenzie on this...
Today the Oakland Raiders sold out their fourth home game of the season. Oakland Raiders have now sold out 19 of their last 20 games. Pittsburgh Steelers game is now sold out, meaning a local television blackout will be lifted. Since assuming ticket sales in 2006, the Raiders have now sold out 39 of 60 […]
East Bay native Taiwan Jones was drafted by his hometown Oakland Raiders to become a change of pace running back. It became obvious to many that Jones would don the silver and black uniform of the Raiders because of Al Davis’ love for lightning speed. The former track star never found his bearings as an NFL running back so Reggie McKenzie decided to switch him to cornerback. During...

Wilson was drafted in the third round back in 2011 by the Saints. He has 4 tackles and 1 sack so far this season.

Selected in the fifth-round in the 2012 NFL Draft, Oakland Raiders WR Juron Criner opened eyes in the offseason as a rookie that saw him play in 12 games with 16 receptions for 151 yards and one touchdown. However, in 2013, Criner hasn't been able to make a dent on the stat sheet or impact on the field. Criner's size (6'3 and 221 pounds), gives him the type of physicality...
Even though the Oakland Raiders are 2-4 and Terrelle Pryor is coming off throwing three interceptions, the glass is half full. I would bet anyone $10 to a glazed doughnut that he's going to be an outstanding quarterback. Some won't get over him losing the Raiders Week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts after keeping them it it. Then there's the second-half collapse...
Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Pat Sims knows how difficult it is to sack Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
For five years the former Cincinnati Bengal tried, mostly in vain, to get Roethlisberger down. In eight games against the 6-foot-5 quarterback, Sims had 1 1-2 sacks and watched as Big Ben led Pittsburgh to a trio of playoff berths.
Roethlisberger's been sacked...

The Pittsburgh Steelers have never drafted a player in the supplemental draft, but Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor very likely could have been the first back in 2011 had the Ohio State product not declined the offer from head coach Mike Tomlin to do just that.
"Mike said, 'Hey, I’ll draft you if you want to play here.' ", said Pryor during his Wednesday...
The Oakland Raiders claimed LB Martez Wilson off of waivers from the Saints on Wednesday.
Oakland subsequently released DE Christo Bilukidi to make room for Wilson on their active roster.
The Saints used the No. 72 pick of the 2011 draft on Wilson, but he wasn’t able to carve out a role on a defensive unit that was among the worst in the league up until this season. Wilson...
Nice one here by Mike Prisuta, he of Steelers.com and many other affiliates that provide coverage on the Black and Gold, that examines the Steelers recent history with the Oakland Raiders. The matchup, as you might fail to remember due to trauma, is currently skewed toward Oakland.
The Raiders have won 3 of the last 4 meetings, two in Oakland and one at Heinz Field. The...
Michael David Smith of NBCSports reports that the New England Patriots are bringing back veteran defensive end, Andre Carter.
Carter played for the Patriots in 2011 and had a solid year with the 10 sacks, forcing two fumbles and being chosen to the Pro Bowl. Carter ended up into the equivalent of a NFL black hole by going to the Oakland Raiders in 2012. The Raiders cut Carter...
