As the Oakland Raiders wrapped up their offseason workouts, quarterback Carson Palmer is feeling comfortable with the new offense. Last season Palmer was traded to the Raiders in week seven and began playing after a half game. Now he will have a full offseason to get acclimated to the new system.

“Very comfortable, considering we just put it in, in six weeks, but I still have a long way to go,” Palmer said after the last mini-camp. “I have a lot of work to do this next couple of weeks before camp. I have a lot of preparation to do before training camp. But I’m very comfortable with what our mindset’s going to be and what’s expected of our offense and what’s expected of different positions, obviously including mine – but just very, very excited about the future and this upcoming year.”

Last season Palmer started nine games for the Raiders completing almost 61 percent of his passes for 2,753 yards, 13 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. This season he will have the advantage of a healthy Darren McFadden to help. McFadden and Palmer never took a snap together last season after McFadden was lost for the year due to a foot injury.

New Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Knapp will ask Palmer to be more mobile especially outside the pocket. Knapp uses rollouts as a part of his system, which is new to Palmer.

“It’s just new, Palmer said. “It’s a completely new offense. There’s really no similarities to anything I’ve done before, but I love all the boots and play actions, the nakeds and the keepers and all those things. I’m excited to do that and those are things that are really going to help the running game. So the more the running game moves the chains and the better the running game is, the better everybody else is on the entire team.”

With a full offseason, a rejuvenated Palmer is working to learn the nuances of the scheme. In the weeks leading up to training camp, held is late July, Palmer will continue to throw and digest the offense. By the time camp ends, Palmer should have complete command.
