PLAYERS: Carson Palmer
TEAMS: Oakland Raiders

After a tumultuous 2011 season, Oakland Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer is excited to be back with the Raiders and looking forward to working during training camp. With a full offseason thus far, Palmer is optimistic about the upcoming season.

“Can’t wait for camp,” Palmer said after mini-camp. “We got a lot of good work in, and you never know what to expect as you’re coming out of this last mini-camp, after the OTAs and off-season workouts. I can’t speak for everybody, but I’m definitely pleasantly surprised with where we are. We got a lot done. We put in a lot. We executed very well. There weren’t a lot of middle mistakes. There were some young guys and rookie guys that need to catch up. But for a new offense, a new system, really a new regime, we’re in a good place with this time we have coming off to get ready for training camp.”

// ><! // ><!

Palmer had a whirlwind 2011 season. After threatening to retire from the Cincinnati Bengals, Palmer was traded to Oakland. He has forced into playing almost immediately because of poor quarterback play. He ended the season starting nine games, completing almost 61 percent of his passes for 2,753 yards, 13 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, leading the Raiders to a 4-5 record as a starter. Even with learning a new offense, Palmer is more comfortable this year.

“Very comfortable, considering we just put it in, in six weeks, but I still have a long way to go,” Palmer said. “I have a lot of work to do this next couple of weeks before camp. I have a lot of preparation to do before training camp. But I’m very comfortable with what our mindset’s going to be and what’s expected of our offense and what’s expected of different positions, obviously including mine – but just very, very excited about the future and this upcoming year.”

Now Palmer has a full offseason to prepare as the starter. He has been present and working throughout the Raiders organized team activities to learn the system and build chemistry with his teammates. The 10 year veteran has also taken on more of a leadership role for the Raiders.

“He’s been an outstanding leader,” head coach Dennis Allen said of Palmer. “He’s taken to the new system, has a good command of what we’re asking him to do. He’s coaching the young guys. You couldn’t ask for anything better than what we’re getting out of Carson right now.”

The more prepared Palmer becomes through training camp and into the regular season, the better the Raiders will perform. The NFL is a quarterback driven league and Palmer is working back to a top tier level. With an arsenal of weapons at his disposal, Palmer has a chance to have a big 2012 season.

Be sure to check out other great articles at Sports Media 101.
var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});

Oakland Raiders DL Richard Seymour Sees More Disciplined Defense in 2012

Oakland Raiders defensive lineman Richard Seymour believes that the defense will be more disciplined this season. The addition of defensive minded coach Dennis Allen and general manager Reggie McKenzie are emphasizing cohesion and execution to the players that will translate to games. “Well, it’s obviously a good thing, but if you mess up, they know exactly what you did...

Why the Oakland Raiders Should Not Sign Cedric Benson

Recently, there have been reports that the Oakland Raiders are “interested in signing Cedric Benson“. He would most likely come into training cap to compete with Taiwan Jones and Mike Goodson to be the No. 2 back behind Darren McFadden. He would most likely be signed to a Veteran Minimum deal, which in his case [...]

Don’t Sleep on Jacoby Ford

With minicamps concluded, and training camp just around the corner, for the first time in quite some time, the Oakland Raiders’ receiving corps is getting a lot of attention. What has been a problem position in years past is now a position of depth. Denarius Moore burst onto the scene in his rookie season last [...]

Tale of the Tape: Lamarr Houston

Lamarr Houston showed a lot of promise his rookie season in 2010 and many fans, media and, presumably, coaches thought he'd really be able to become a force at LDE last season. Houston did not have a bad season - he actually put up good numbers on tackles with 51 total - but his sack numbers dropped precipitately in 2011. Houston was only able to bring the QB down once last...

Oakland Raiders Tight End Position Battle Will Be Determined in Training Camp and Preseason

In approximately one month, the Oakland Raiders will begin training camp where a front runner will emerge and take the starting tight end job. As of now, the Raiders like the completion between David Ausberry, Brandon Myers, and Richard Gordon because it forces everyone to make progress each day. “As far as the tight ends position? Yeah, absolutely,” Raiders head coach Dennis...

Back from the Dead: Random Thoughts

It's time to re-emerge just in time for training camp. My apologies for an extended absence prompted by the obligations of adult life and the slower cycle of Bengals news. But it’s time to break back into the black and orange – and I plan to do so in rapid-fire fashion. Here are a few things I’ve been thinking about our beloved Bengals: -When’s the last time the roster...
