From Fat Man Writing:

A few weeks ago there was a video of a high school running back/defensive lineman that made waves in Hawaii with some amazing speed for a 350-pound man mountain. Maybe if he makes it to the combine in a few years he might have a chance at breaking the record that Terron Armstead set Saturday.

Armstead, an offensive lineman from the small school of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, wowed scouts and analysts in attendance when he got his 300-plus pound body moving fast enough to run a 4.71 40-yard dash Saturday morning.

It is the best time for a lineman in the 40 since at least 2006 when the NFL really started to keep records. He was almost bested later in the day by Lance Johnson from Oklahoma, but edged him out by a hundredth of a second (he was timed at 4.72).

10 Comments:
  • Steve Courson (Steelers) ran 4.5 & 4.6. Ezra Johnson (Packers) ran 4.4 & 4.5. to bad there was no combine back then.
  • Steve Courson's playing weight was 274.
    Ezra Johnson played at 250.

  • Remember those tractor pulls? Who cares how fast he's in the forty. Have an event where an OL pushes a weighted sled 40 yds. I want an OL that can open holes in the D, not challenge Calvin Johnson in a foot race
  • I don't think the QBs need to worry. He is an Offensive lineman.
  • Not sure if the lineman weighed in excess of 300lbs. back then.
  • Fat and fast it's the wave of the future. somebody has to catch these young fast QB's. the old guard doesn't seem to be up for the task. But just remember speed kills just ask RG3. The real question is how long can they keep up that pace. 60min. at full speed at 300+lbs. i'm sure it will fun to watch GO fat dudes!
