When general manager Reggie McKenzie signed veteran cornerback Tracy Porter, it seemed like nothing but a stop-gap solution for the horrendous Oakland Raiders secondary. However, the former Super Bowl hero Porter has had a remarkable season so far in the silver and black. Although Porter’s career got off to a rocky start, partly because he naively thought he would be able to don Charles Woodson‘s number 24 jersey. After a forgettable season with the hated Denver Broncos, Porter was signed to a cheap one year contract. Head coach Dennis Allen was actually Porter’s position coach when they won a Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints. The Raiders defense has looked light years ahead of last year’s squad because they are finally able to run Allen’s hybrid defense. In six games this season, Porter already has 37 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 6 pass deflections. Porter has been the perfect slot corner for Allen’s hybrid scheme. Not only does Porter have the tackling ability to bring down a running back or quarterback off of a nickel blitz but Porter has shown he has play maker instincts. Although Porter still does not have an interception this season he has been close to grabbing a few. Porter held his own against the vaunted Broncos passing attack and has gotten better throughout the season. The Raiders will have up to 70 million dollars in cap room next season. Obviously, Porter has played his way into a better contract but he should still be a relatively cheap player to bring back. With DJ Hayden expected to solidify one starting cornerback option, the Raiders would still need to upgrade their other starting cornerback position.   You can follow Jorge on twitter @jraycontreras or add him to your network on google Jorge is the co-founder of  Football and Futbol , Bay Sports Report , Cascadia Sports , Sports Report So Cal and Sports Report Arizona

Coliseum city maybe the last chance for the Raiders in Oakland

Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News believes that the Coliseum City plan that would host the Raiders, Warriors and A’s is the best (and possibly only) option to keep the Raiders in the bay area. On Tuesday, the City Council approved new potential investors — led by Dubai-based financier Rashid Al Malik — and extended the group’s exclusive negotiating period on the project...

Marquette King is turning into a fan favorite in Oakland

When Shane Lechler left this off season not many fans were happy. Many Raiders fans were upset, because even though they love Marquette King’s strong leg, they were not sure if he could be consistent. Although it hasn’t been perfected, King’s punts have been effective. He’s averaging 42 net yards per punt – which ranks […]

Terrelle Pryor Must Learn to Master Pre-Snap Duties

Terrelle Pryor hasn’t had much criticism in an excellent season. After beating out Matt Flynn in the final week of the preseason, Pryor has shown significant growth in each and every game. He may have tried a bit too hard in the fourth quarter of the Chiefs game, but Oakland Raiders fans can’t be mad at a player for trying too hard to win. For the first three quarters, Pryor...

For better or worse, the next five games could define Darren McFadden’s future

Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden said during training camp he feels he owes a good season to the organization – his season has been anything but stellar so far. The organization and fans are still waiting for McFadden to match his success from 2010, the only season of his career in which his amassed more than 1,000 rushing yards. Writers and analysts believed McFadden...

Matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers begins a favorable spell in Oakland’s schedule

The Oakland Raiders upcoming matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers willl start a five-game stretch in which every opponent is currently 0.500 or below. Pittsburgh along with three other teams within the said upcoming schedule: Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and Houston Texans, are surprisingly having subpar seasons. That which is most astonishing is New York who is still...

Report: JaMarcus Russell still working on his weight, knee injury

Despite the fact that both the Bears and Rams could use a starting quarterback right now,  JaMarcus Russell isn’t ready to make a comeback just yet as he continues to work on his weight as well as get his knee healthy again. Wondering whether #Rams, #Texans or #Bears would bring in JaMarcus Russell? I’m told he’s not ready yet. Still working on knee, weight — Ian Rapoport...

Oakland Raiders could start Lamar Mady at guard this week

The Raiders began practice Monday with several non starters playing with the first team. Backups Lamar Mady and Matt McCants are once again working with the first team for the Raiders (2-4) and right guard Mike Brisiel was back at center after playing there for the first time ever in an NFL game in the […]

WR Juron Criner working to get playing time: 'My practice habits are definitely getting a lot better'

Selected in the fifth-round in the 2012 NFL Draft, Oakland Raiders WR Juron Criner opened eyes in the offseason as a rookie that saw him play in 12 games with 16 receptions for 151 yards and one touchdown. However, in 2013, Criner hasn't been able to make a dent on the stat sheet or impact on the field. Criner's size (6'3 and 221 pounds), gives him the type of physicality...

Raiders Lose Ground in AFC West Race

While the bye has been wonderful for recovering the Raiders‘ health, the results of this week have pushed them a little farther from the rest of their division. The Chiefs and Chargers, the two teams immediately ahead of the Raiders, both pulled out a win, pushing the Raiders farther into 4th place in the AFC West. The Chiefs were taken to the wire in Case Keenum’s first start...

In Order To Stay in Contention, Raiders Must Beat Steelers

(Kansas City Chiefs Facebook Page) The Oakland Raiders are at a regularly disappointing 2-4 so far this season but due to the heavy competition in their own division, the Raiders may already be out of playoff contention.  Oakland needs a win this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers if they have any hope of salvaging the season. The Kansas City Chiefs are now the last undefeated...

Oakland Raiders and Terrelle Pryor Both Fixable

Even though the Oakland Raiders are 2-4 and Terrelle Pryor is coming off throwing three interceptions, the glass is half full. I would bet anyone $10 to a glazed doughnut that he's going to be an outstanding quarterback. Some won't get over him losing the Raiders Week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts after keeping them it it. Then there's the second-half collapse...

Former RB Jones thrives on Raiders special teams

Raiders cornerback Taiwan Jones is a converted running back. He made the switch starting this offseason but the transition isn’t complete. The switch from offense to defense will take time especially with decreased practice reps during game week. Jones has found a way to contribute in the interim. The third-year pro has become a standout special teams player especially on coverage...

Where does JaMarcus Russell stand in his comeback bid?

JaMarcus Russell still isn’t ready for the NFL. That much seems clear after Jeff Garcia, who helped get Russell into shape over the summer, said that Russell was set back by his $3 million settlement with the Oakland Raiders. "When he got that settlement from Oakland, that $3 million dollar-plus settlement, I think things got soft again," Garcia said via

Pryor gets 'House'-work in during bye

Terrelle Pryor did not head to Los Angeles to work with quarterback guru Tom House over the Raiders’ bye this past weekend. Instead House came up to Oakland to work with the Raiders quarterback on Sunday. “We went to a local field and got in some good work” Pryor said after a light practice Monday as the team began preparations for Pryor’s favorite team growing up his...

Raiders still banged up on offensive line

The Oakland Raiders returned from their bye week facing many of the same questions on the offensive line that they had when they left town last week. The Raiders began practice Monday with the same makeshift line that struggled mightily in their last game eight days ago in Kansas City with many of their starters still dealing with injuries. Backups Lamar Mady and Matt McCants are...
