Cowboys Gab:
Although he isn't expected to officially sign with the team until tomorrow, Dallas released CB Evan Oglesby to create a spot on the 53-man roster for S Keith Davis' return.? Most believe, as I do, that this is a very fortunate turn of events for the Cowboys as Davis spearheaded the special teams for Dallas over the last three seasons prior to his leaving for Miami earlier this year.
Oglesby, although a good young player, is one of eleven defensive backs that was on the roster so it was either someone from this group or the offensive line, which has eleven also.? Since there are currently no injured defensive backs but there is some concern about the O-line, Oglesby's release made sense on many levels.
Davis will certainly continue his strong kick coverage and step right into the Dallas defense at safety, if needed whereas Oglesby was very new to the Cowboys' scheme.? Having just come over this year after being released by the Ravens, Oglesby hadn't had much time to learn Dave Campo's secondary.? He will most likely be picked up by another team as there are several teams in need of a CB.
With only three days left to get ready for the Browns, Davis' return can only help fill an immediate need that we have all been concerned about over the preseason.? Good job, Mr. Jones!
