Ohio State’s Former Biggest Star Is Having A Problem Finding An NFL Home
Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL offseason can be a humbling time for many players, and for one former Ohio State quarterback, he is finding out how hard it is to find a home in the league.

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is in limbo right now with the team. He is penciled in as their starting quarterback, but they hold the right to the number one pick in this year’s NFL Draft and will most likely take USC’s quarterback, Caleb Williams, leaving Fields without a home in Chicago.

Ohio State Former Quarterback Doesn’t Seem Wanted At The Moment

Fields played at Ohio State in 2019 and 2020, leading them to a playoff win against Clemson in the 2020 season, but they fell short in the title game against Alabama. Fields would leave Ohio State that spring and become the 11th pick In the NFL draft.

Many NFL teams have been making quarterback moves so far this offseason, like the Atlanta Falcons agreeing on a deal with Kirk Cousins, Las Vegas Raiders Gardner Minshew, Pittsburgh Steelers, Russell Wilson, and Jacoby Brissett with the New England Patriots, and Fields has yet to find a trade partner for him.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter stated that he doesn’t think there is a starting job for him right now.

If Fields does have to settle for a backup job, four out of the five quarterbacks taken in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft will not be a starter heading into the 2024 season.

2021 Quarterback Class Has Not Lived Up To The Hype

The first overall pick, Trevor Lawrence , still starts in Jacksonville, but Zach Wilson was backup with the Jets last year until Aaron Rodgers got hurt and will be a backup again this season, either in New York or on another team. Trey Lance was traded from the San Francisco 49ers to the Dallas Cowboys after training camp last season, and we saw the New England Patriots trade Mac Jones to Jacksonville on Sunday to be Lawrence’s backup.

The 2021 quarterback class has fallen on hard times, and right now, Fields still has a chance to be a starter in the NFL this upcoming season, but it looks very slim.
