If there is one thing Chicago Bears fans have learned about general manager Phil Emery, he is not one to tip his hand. The man would be a pro at a poker table. So needless to say it’s anyone’s guess as to who the Bears will select with the 20th pick in Thursday’s NFL draft. But let’s try and delve into the thought process of those in charge at Halas Hall.If you follow social media any at all, many of the experts are projecting the Bears to use its first-round selection on former Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o.Six months ago I am sure if you were to tell Bears fans Te’o could don the navy blue and orange this season they would be stoked. Now? Well not so much for the obvious reasons. Te’o is going to have a hard enough time making the transition to the NFL after all the scrutiny over the last few months, not to mention trying to replace a legend like Brian Urlacher.Aside from the National Championship game, Te’o put up some pretty sound numbers. I feel like he will still have a very productive NFL career, but I would like to see the Bears' brass look elsewhere. It’s no secret the Southeastern Conference is the best in the nation. The conference is known for its smash-mouth style of play, especially on the defensive side of the ball. If the Bears are looking to take a linebacker with their first pick, look no further than Georgia LB Alec Ogletree. The junior led the Bulldogs in tackles with last season with 111 (63 solo) and 11.5 tackles for loss. If not for a DUI arrest Ogletree most likely would not be around at the No. 20 slot. But the off the field incident has left him as a projected late first-round or early to mid second-round selection. With that being said this could work in favor for my scenario for the Bears. Having only five picks in the draft, I feel it would be in the Bears best interest to trade down from the No. 20 pick. The 2013 draft class lacks the star power of last season. There is plenty of depth at almost every position in this year’s class. So if I am Emery and new coach Marc Trestman I am trying to find a suitor to trade down from the No. 20 pick to receive an extra pick which could prove to be valuable. The only problem is a number of other teams are looking to trade down as well.Emery accomplished a lot -- with very little cap room -- during free agency, which gives the team plenty of flexibility in the draft. The only question is how many decoys Emery and company will throw out to draft experts before the commissioner Roger Goodell makes it official.TRAVIS DAVID is a contributor for FOOTBALL NATION.
