To help support the Atlanta Falcons as the team prepares to take on the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game inside the friendly confines of the Georgia Dome on Sunday, video has been released by the Georgia Aquarium starring some Southern Sea Otters and Asian Small-Clawed Otters playing around with the old pigskin. I guess it’s reasonable to assume that whenever you give a bunch of sea otters a football, the only thing you can expect is “otter chaos,” am I right? Right? Hey, I wouldn’t have been inspired to go with the otter joke (not really — I would have done it anyway) if it were not for the YouTube description of the delightful video. See for yourself: As the Atlanta Falcons go to the NFC Championship, Georgia Aquarium has found some “otterly” excited fans who have been working on their football skills.. Check out how our marine team is getting in the football spirit! Ha! And truly, the video is a hoot, although more otter and less SCUBA guys would have been preferable. But what could be up next for these charming semi-aquatic mammals? A stage adaptation of the classic Gabe Kaplan-John Travolta sitcom entitled, Welcome Back, Otter? But seriously, folks, as these otters find themselves swept up in the excitement, there is a good chance these creatures might have become afflicted with Falcons Fever. Although how does one ascertain whether or not otters have a case of Falcons Fever? A veterinarian, maybe? A better bet might be to ship them down the road to the headquarters of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Druid Hills. Can’t be too cautious this time of year.
