Cornerback Christopher Owens practiced with the Atlanta Falcons for the first time in nearly a month Thursday, and star defensive end John Abraham remains hobbled by an injured left ankle.
Owens had been out since injuring a hamstring in a Dec. 22 victory at Detroit. He was back on the field on a limited basis, raising hopes that he'll be able to play in Sunday's NFC championship game against San Francisco.
Abraham, listed as limited, has done little in practice after reinjuring his ankle in last weekend's playoff victory over Seattle. The Falcons hope he'll be able to play some snaps against the 49ers.
Jonathan Babineaux (shoulder) was limited for the second day in a row. Safety William Moore (hand) and linebacker Stephen Nicholas (foot) both participated fully in practice.

Matt Ryan has been cool under pressure since he took over the alpha dog position for the Atlanta Falcons.
The quarterback has made come-from-behind victories look easy.
In just five seasons Ryan has pulled off 16 fourth-quarter comebacks and 23 game-winning drives overall.
There has been a lot said about him.
But what can not be stated is that he cracks in stressful situations...
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- During the Atlanta Falcons' three days of practice this week, defensive end John Abraham, the teams leader in sacks, increased his workload each day after re-injuring his ankle in the divisional round.
Nonetheless, the club announced his status as "questionable" for Sundays NFC title game against the 49ers.

The Falcons are lucky to be in the NFC Championship. Atlanta needed a last-second field goal to beat the Seattle Seahawks, who rallied from a 20-0 hole to take a late lead. The win was the first for both head coach Mike Smith and quarterback Matt Ryan. Now, Atlanta (14-3) will host the surging San Francisco 49ers (12-4-1), who smothered the Green Bay Packers by a score of 45-31 in...
Michael Turner's trademark high-pitched laugh filled the Falcons' locker room.
Asked about San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Turner said ''I'm glad I'm not on defense.''
Turner, the big running back, and the Falcons' offense want to hold the ball and limit Kaepernick's time on the field in Sunday's NFC championship game.
Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith provided some good news for his team when he announced on Wednesday that he expects his team's best pass-rusher, John Abraham, to be in the starting lineup for Sunday's NFC championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. However, Abraham did not practice on Wednesday, and the Falcons are making contingency plans in case Abraham cannot...

To help support the Atlanta Falcons as the team prepares to take on the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game inside the friendly confines of the Georgia Dome on Sunday, video has been released by the Georgia Aquarium starring some Southern Sea Otters and Asian Small-Clawed Otters playing around with the old pigskin.

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By PAUL NEWBERRY AP Sports Writer Tony Gonzalez remembers talking to Michael Strahan after the former New York Giants defensive lineman won a Super Bowl title in his final game.
That's the way Gonzalez wants to do it.

It’s hard to believe that it doesn’t happen more often, but the two top seeds in the NFC did their job; they protected home field and have advanced to meet each other for the right to head to New Orleans as the NFC representative in the Super Bowl.
With a dominating performance over my preseason Super Bowl pick, the Niners demolished the Packers to head to Atlanta to take on...
(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By ANTONIO GONZALEZ AP Sports Writer Carlos Rogers had one word to describe his homecoming in Atlanta when the San Francisco 49ers face the Falcons in Sunday's NFC championship: expensive.
The 49ers cornerback, born in Augusta and an offseason resident of Atlanta, grew up doing the ''Dirty Birds'' dance when...
Finally, the NFC is down to the two final teams that many had been anticipating for quite some time. While I had the Niners getting bounced last week just like I had back in the preseason, I still believed the Falcons would find a way to get the job done.
They have done just that and now they have to take on arguably the best team in all of football. Their defense is flat out dirty...
At first, I thought this was going to be a video of an animal choosing the winners of this weekend’s NFL Conference Championships. But no, it is just a small promotional video for the Atlanta Falcons with an otter catching a football. The Falcons could use a secret weapon like this, since the 49ers are gonna smoke’em.
