TEAMS:
Green Bay Packers
Mike McCarthy has called the 2012 Green Bay Packers his most experienced and talented team, putting pressure on the team to perform up to the levels of his recent clubs have. The Packers steamrolled through the regular season a year ago, finishing 15-1 and averaging 35 points per game. But plans for a Super Bowl repeat were dashed with a divisional round playoff loss, a stinging defeat. Now, McCarthy is thinking big once again as the Packers work to get back to the Super Bowl, one of many topics he covered in an interview with Rob Reischel of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I just feel with all returning players, our fourth year in the system defensively, fifth year in the system with (special teams coordinator) Shawn (Slocum), McCarthy saud. We have a lot of experience with the players in this system. I just feel as a whole, it was a very athletic off-season program and I've been impressed with the quality of depth and the competition we're going to have. I think we're probably putting too much into the statement because we've been fortunate enough to have quality depth and competitive training camps. But this one, on paper, looks like it's going to live up to those standards. The Packers cant point to having a much better regular season than they enjoyed a year ago. Its not about being better than 15-1, its about finding a way to succeed in January. I said it the first day I was here. It's always about winning the world championship in Green Bay, McCarthy said. I don't think you ever settle for less than that. Just take a look at last year, 15-1 doesn't cut it. We have a blueprint of success for the way we train, but it's a challenge every year. The team takes on a new face every year. There's a path out there for us to get to New Orleans and win the championship. It's our responsibility, and with a little touch of grace from the good Lord, we'll be able to stay on that path.

Packers seventh-round pick Andrew Datko.
The word “if” is used a lot when evaluating rookies before they’ve ever played a snap in the NFL. If Rookie A can learn the offense, he’ll be a star. If Rookie B fixes his technique, watch out. If Rookie C stays out of jail, he’s a pro-bowler.

Packers confident, humbled, hungry for 2012
Perhaps it's a good thing the Packers won't see the Detroit Lions for the first time next season until Week 11 of the league schedule, which falls on the third weekend of November. What's become a chippy rivalry between the longtime division foes added a new layer for potentially fueling more friction. Lions head coach Jim Schwartz indirectly may have taken a shot at...
