The Packers signed Lanier Coleman to take the place of Jumal Rolle on the practice squad. Such a minor move isn’t normally worth more than a mention on Twitter, but Coleman’s journey to Green Bay deserves better than 140 characters. After being released by the Vikings in 2009, the former college defensive lineman gave up his dream of playing in the pros and worked as a strength and conditioning coach at Rice and Cal-Berkely. After getting the urge to give the NFL one more shot, Coleman earned a spot on the Jets’ 90-man roster after an impressive showing as a tryout player at the team’s rookie minicamp in May. But he knew the odds were against him. “It’s been very difficult,” admitted the 27-year-old after a practice in August. “Just getting back in the game after three years, trying to shake off the rust.” Coleman wound up being released on the final cut to 53.
