GREEN BAY, Wis. — For the better part of 16 years here, he was a hero, an icon, a legend. His record-setting performances and last-minute comebacks stirred the souls of men. His dimples and smile beneath that 5 o'clock shadow melted the hearts of women. Children worshipped at his feet and spoke his name with almost a whispered reverence.
Sunday night, however, was a different story. Sunday night, the good folks of Green Bay couldn't wait for Brett Favre to get the hell out of town.
It's a wonder they didn't form a Cheesehead convoy from Lambeau Field to Austin Straubel Airport to make sure he really did board that charter back to Minneapolis. And then return en masse to the Brown County sheriff's office this morning and demand a restraining order that would keep him from ever again stepping within 50 miles of town.
