The Green Bay Packers drafted him with their 51st overall pick, making him the highest-drafted MSU defensive player since Julian Peterson in 2000 (No. 16) and the highest-drafted MSU defensive tackle since Bobby Wilson in 1991 (No. 17).

Reports had Worthy going 36th to Denver, but stcuk around long enough for the the Packers to trade up and grab him. Going into the draft, Here's our analysis of the talented DT:

60 Max Videostat Profile: DT Jerel Worthy

In the beginning of his career, Worthy was free to pass rush and penetrate the line in what is usually called the off-tackle position. At this point going forward, his job is to occupy double teams, close off running and passing lanes, eat up space and hold ground at the point of attack. A perfect fit as a nose tackle in the NFL. He’s a penetrating type, but has learned the two gap techniques and absorbed it well. Thus his earlier success has suffered for the need of a dominating defensive tackle that occupies blockers. He is strong enough in his upper body to grab a player all in one motion, bringing the ball carrier into his chest and down to the ground.

Worthy projects to be a 3-4 DE rather than a bulked up 3-4 NT and will have to learn how to play on an edge instead the interior line. He’ll have to be able to control both gaps and have the quickness and strength to close gaps.
