Legendary senior writer jclombardi reports that LB Chillar was released.

Breaking News: The Packers released linebacker Brandon Chillar suffering from a serious hamstring injury in the offseason.  Since he could not pass their physical, the Packers still could have put him on the PUP (physically unable to perform list).  Yet, he apparently could come back from the injury in 2011 NFL season.

According to sources, the Packers gained the $2.6 million of Chillar’s earnings for this year and will take a charge of $800,000 next year. Through the release of linebacker Barnett, defensive end Justin Harrell, linebacker Brady Poppinga and now Chillar, GM TT sliced off $12.7 million of the Packers’ salary cap. Those same cuts will cost him $2.48 million next year because of the pro-rated shares left over in each player’s contract. The Packers were right at the $120 million salary cap mark at the start of free agency.
