Packers on track to see a familiar face on Sunday vs. Steelers
Tork Mason / USA TODAY NETWORK

The NFL is all about different varieties of reunions. In the case of the Green Bay Packers, they're set to face off against former seventh-round pick, Tariq Carpenter when the team plays the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

The Steelers elevated Carpenter from the practice squad to the 53-man roster on Sunday. Starting linebacker, Cole Holcomb, was placed on IR earlier in the week. Therefore, Pittsburgh needed an extra body.

Carpenter seemed to be in good favor with the Packers before he was cut

The Packers really liked Carpenter's special teams ability and moved him from safety to linebacker during the offseason, signaling they wanted to give him the best shot possible to make the final roster.

Carpenter had a pretty good training camp/preseason and it looked like he was going to make the team until the Packers released him the day after final roster cuts in order to make room for tight end Ben Sims and safety Zayne Anderson.

The second-year player has yet to play a snap in any capacity this year, but it looks like will end that streak on Sunday. Whether it be on defense or special teams.

Packers made their own roster move on Saturday

The Packers made their own roster move on Saturday, promoting defensive back Innis Gaines to the 53-man roster. The team had already elevated Gaines three times, so according to NFL rules, he has to be signed to the 53-man roster for promotion sake. Gaines will also receive three game checks, even if he's cut after Sunday's matchup.
