The Packers placed tight end Andrew Quarless and offensive lineman Derek Sherrod on the active/physically unable to perform list to begin training camp. Coach Mike McCarthy said Quarless and Sherrod aren't ready to practice. Safety Charlie Peprah won't likely practice Thursday but could be ready to return by the weekend. Quarless suffered a severe right knee injury in December and is expected to miss part of the 2012 regular season. Sherrod is recovering from a broken right leg. He was injured Dec. 18 at Kansas City in the Packers' only regular-season loss. Fullback John Kuhn remained a PUP candidate as of Wednesday morning, according to McCarthy. Running back Alex Green "is very close to practicing" and won't be placed on PUP. He missed most of his rookie season in 2011 with a knee injury.

As expected, Charles Woodson lined up as the starting strong safety when the Packers used their base defense on Thursday. Woodson's role, however, won't be changing much. In nickel, Woodson was back as his usual spot.
After selling cheap pieces of paper ("stock") last year that told fans of the Green Bay Packers, "Oh, yeah, you totally can own a piece of this great franchise, we promise!" this week the team held their largest shareholding meeting ever. Coincidentally, it was also their worst. Team officials estimated that upwards of 12,000 mouth breathers were able to lumber...

The Green Bay Packers have released veteran safety Charlie Peprah a day before their first training camp practice, apparently over concern about a lingering knee injury.
