So special teams is one of those things that no fan knows about but we all love to gripe about.  For instance, other than the kicker, punter, long snapper and gunner, do you know the name of any other position?  I sure don’t but I will yell at the screen when the guy misses a block.  This is essentially what happened during the “punt, pass and puke” play as quoted by Drew Olsen on Green and Gold Today.  We all know it was a terrible play, and head coach Mike McCarthy and special teams coach Shawn Slocum both got plenty of heat for the call.  But why call the play in the first place?       The Situation: The score is Green Bay 21, Chicago 10 with 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter.  The Packers are sitting pretty well at the moment, the Bears offense hasn’t been able to move the ball (i.e. failing to convert a single 3rd down) while the Packers have had success both on the ground as well as in the air and look to burn some time with a two score lead. Snap: The Packers come out with t...

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers is an astute photobomber (Photo)

These days, even high-profile NFL quarterbacks are doing the act known as "photobombing" to score some instant Internet fame. Apparently, there is now a Tumblr website called "Aaron Rodgers Photobombs" which features last year's NFL MVP posing in team photos. Below is just some that they collected: (All images courtesy of Aaron Rodgers...

Packers WR Randall Cobb Limited In Practice

Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb was a limited participant in practice due to a shoulder injury as the team prepares for Week 16 against the Titans. Cobb, who posted a career-high 115 yards on six catches in Week 15 at Chicago, is still expected to play Sunday. “All season, we haven’t had everybody healthy at our position," said Cobb. "We’re looking for that game where...

Aaron Rodgers Still Has Doubts About Pro Bowl

When NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stopped by the Green Bay Packers’ training camp for a day last August, quarterback Aaron Rodgers talked to him about possibly ending or altering the Pro Bowl, Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports. Rodgers wants the league to do something after his experience in the Pro Bowl last season, when the AFC blew out the NFC in a game...

Packers have 'foot on the gas' to get a bye

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- When the Packers cruised through the regular season last year, earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs and had a bye in the first round, the end result was clearly not what the team wanted. But that experience of getting blown out by the New York Giants in the postseason divisional round has not changed the way coach Mike McCarthy views a first-round bye. ...

Aaron Nagler answers Total Titans' questions about the Packers

I'm glad to be joined for this week's Q&A by Aaron Nagler. Aaron is the co-founder of the fine Packers blog CheeseheadTV and also writes for Bleacher Report. You can also follow his comments on the Packers, the NFL, and everything else under the sun on Twitter. Total Titans: Aaron Rodgers' level of play last year was, I think, probably the greatest I've ever...

Packers Film Study: The Slant Route vs. Cover 2

The Tampa 2 defense, as drawn up by former NFL safety Matt Bowen. It’s amazing how quickly “group think” spreads among Green Bay Packers fans. Start an idea rolling, and it becomes hard to stop, whether it’s credible or not. Such is the case with the recent calls for more slant routes in the Packers’ passing game. The question was even posed to Aaron Rodgers on his weekly...

Six Packers win fan vote for Pro Bowl

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Pro Bowl voting is over for fans, and the Packers are well represented in the final tallies. Six Packers won the fan-vote at their position in the NFC: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers (777,827 votes), outside linebacker Clay Matthews (343,514), fullback John Kuhn (181,820), strong safety Charles Woodson (117,230), center Jeff Saturday (312,013) and kick returner Randall...

Cobb, Jones Pick Up Slack in Passing Game

Jordy Nelson and Greg Jennings had a remarkable season with 24 touchdowns last year. This year, they've been on the sideline more often than they've been in the end zone. Where would the Packers be without James Jones and Randall Cobb having monster seasons?

FanDuel Stars and Scrubs: Week 16

We’ve got less than a month left in the FanDuel season (no games past the Divisional Round of the playoffs), which means you’re running out of chances to bump up how much money you cash out at the end of the NFL season (since you’re not silly enough to actually play in NBA games, right?). Since the only complaints I saw last week were about my spelling and identification of...

RGIII sixth overall in Pro Bowl Voting

Washington Redskins stand out rookie QB Robert Griffin III was sixth overall in the NFL in fan voting for the NFL Pro Bowl.  Among NFC quarterbacks, Griffin was second, behind Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers.  Pretty impressive for a rookie. Denver QB Peyton Manning topped New England QB Tom Brady for the top spot overall in fan voting.  Manning received 993.045 votes.  In...

WMFL Staff Consensus Rankings – Week 16

WMFL Staff Consensus Rankings – Week 16 At the quarterback position both Zach and Rizzla see Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady as the top two options with Tony Romo also being included as a QB1 due to his match-up with a the Saints and their porous secondary. At the running back position both of our writers believe that KnowShown Moreno is a RB1 this week against the Browns in a matchup...

Titans-Packers Preview

Coach Mike McCarthy isn't about to disregard the importance of the first-round bye simply because his Green Bay Packers were bounced out of last season's NFC playoffs without a victory. The only difference in his team's pursuit of that goal this season is the starters likely won't be receiving any rest over the final weeks this time around. Green Bay can help its...
