Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette writes that the Packers ”appear more likely” to address Aaron Rodgers‘ contract situation this offseason. Dougherty believes Green Bay would be “better off moving sooner rather than later” given that Ravens QB Joe Flacco could set the bar really high and possibly get a deal similar to that of that of Drew Brees. Rodgers could easily surpass Flacco’s contract, so it makes sense that they would work to get something done in the near future. GM Ted Thompson has to be well aware of market value for the game’s best quarterbacks. The Packers do have some money to work with, but there’s no question that fitting a massive contract into anyone’s cap situation will reciprocal effects. Rodgers, 29, still has two years remaining on his current contract, but is set to make base salaries of only $9.25 million and $10.5 million for the next two seasons. The average base salary for the top five quarterbacks comes out to $17.24 million, according to contract numbers provided by Spotrac.com. Rodgers could very easily beat that average and target a deal north of $100 million.   The post Packers Preparing To Lockup Aaron Rodgers This Offseason? appeared first on NFL Trade Rumors -.
